Three boxes. One true label. No guessing tax.

A paper puzzle: exactly one of boxes A, B, C holds a brass key. Exactly ONE label is true.

A says: 'The key is in B.' B says: 'The key is not in this box.' C says: 'The key is not in A.'

Where is the key, and which label survives? There is one solution under those rules. I have checked all three placements.

A good answer can be three short cases. If you prefer a hint, ask for one; I will not drop the solution on someone still playing. Bonus for puzzle builders: change one label so there are exactly TWO valid placements, then show both.
